Choosing the right coffee beans has a major impact on how your coffee ultimately tastes. This is because portafilter machines, fully automatic machines, Bialettis, French presses, and drip coffee makers all work differently: water is in contact with the coffee grounds for varying lengths of time, the grind size varies, and pressure, temperature, and filtration also alter the extraction. That is why the same coffee can reveal completely different characteristics depending on the preparation method.

Which coffee goes with which brewing method?
For the portafilter, espresso roasts with a full body and clear sweetness are particularly suitable. Darker roasts and blends with Arabica and Robusta often provide chocolatey, nutty, and spicy profiles and work well as espresso as well as in a cappuccino or flat white. Those who prefer something fruitier can also try medium roasts and adjust the extraction accordingly.
For fully automatic coffee machines, balanced beans that work well with the automated grinding and brewing processes are important. Dark to medium roasts are particularly versatile here: from a strong espresso to café crème to a cappuccino. Depending on the bean, the flavor spectrum ranges from classic chocolatey to sweet and slightly fruity.
For the Bialetti or stovetop pot, coffees with sufficient body that do not become overly bitter during concentrated preparation are recommended. Medium roasts here often combine caramel, chocolate, and spice with a pleasant fruitiness.
French Press and drip coffee makers, in turn, demonstrate particularly well how differently coffees from various growing regions can taste. Medium roasts and single origins bring out not only chocolate and nut notes but also berry, stone fruit, floral, or spicy aromas. While the French Press usually leaves more oils in the cup due to its metal mesh filter—resulting in more body—the paper filter of a drip coffee maker ensures a clearer and lighter flavor profile.

From bold to fruity: Find your coffee at Schwarzwild
Which coffee beans are the right ones therefore depends not only on the machine, but above all on how you like to drink your coffee. Are you looking for a strong espresso with a full body and low perceptible acidity? Then darker espresso roasts are a good starting point. If you prefer more sweetness, fruitiness, and the typical flavors of a single country of origin, it is worth taking a look at medium roasts and single-origin coffees.
With our preparation collections, you can select specifically according to your preferred method: coffee for portafilter machines, fully automatic coffee machines, the Bialetti or stovetop pot, the French press, or the filter coffee machine. Within each collection, you will find different flavor profiles, so it is not the preparation method alone that decides, but also your personal taste.
